My Brothers All,

Here's our Long Green Valley Council (LGVC) news summary for Monday, March 18th to Sunday, March 24th.

1. This Week at LGVC - Monday, March 18th Council Home Rental - Tuesday, March 19th Council Lunch Bunch Meeting 11:30 AM - Wednesday, March 20 Council Home Rental - Friday, March 22nd, Fish Fry at St Mark's 4:30-7:00 PM - Friday, March 22nd, Pre-Stations Dinner at Council Home 6 PM - Friday, March 22nd, Stations of the Cross in the Chapel 7 PM - Saturday /Sunday, March 23rd & 24th Palm Sunday, Start of Holy Week

2. Participation and Service Opportunities (Council Needs for Member Help) Members are invited to our Lunch Bunch on the 3rd Tuesday each month. For those who can make a day time meeting, it is a chance for fraternity. Lunch Bunch was first created for those who can't attend evening meetings, but all are welcome. We collect a $3 donation that pays for lunch food costs and we provide a summary of what is happening. However, most of the time is spent catching up with friends. St Mark's will have a Fish Fry again on Friday afternoon starting at 4:30. We collaborated with St Marks for our Fish Fry last Friday (15th) using some of their equipment and advertising our events across both parishes. We sold our unused supplies to St Mark's to make both Fish Fry events more successful. We urge you to support them if you can.

3. Our Accomplishments Fish Fry Chair Tom Rowan planned and organized our outstanding Fish Fry last Friday, March 15th. The Fish Fry is a great Lenten tradition and combines aspects of Church, Community, Council, Youth and Family Activities so there were service opportunities for over 40 Knights who pitched in to help. Volunteers chose to work as fryers, runners, food servers, ticket takers, clean up crew, drink servers and more. A heartfelt thanks goes out to all of you. The success of the Fish Fry makes it a great candidate for a yearly occurrence (or two). A special all hands email will be sent later to fully describe the Fish Fry and provide the details. We are still completing an inventory and totalling the results.

New member Bill Zoli took his 2nd degree. Congratulate Bill when you see him. Six members recently took their 3rd degree at Dundalk Council. The 3rd degree is full membership in the Council. Members interested in the 4th Degree can also join Assemblies especially created for the 4th Degree.

The Maryland March for Life on Monday, March 11th had several attendees from our Council. Thanks to Ed Gibbons for leading our efforts. We are in theprocess of building representation at these events.

Archbishop Lori celebrated 9 AM Mass at St Johns Sunday, March 17th, with a reception following. The Knights sat together to show unity in our usual section of the Church and wore name badges. Msgr Rick recognized both our Council and the complement of 8 Sir Knights in full regalia who supported the mass. As most Knights know, Archbishop Lori is new to the Baltimore Archdiocese, but has been the Supreme Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus and a strong supporter of the Order.

4. Coming Attractions Ushers are needed for the Easter 12:30 service (March 31st). Let Brother Bob Torr (410-592-2266) know if you can help at that service.

Holy Week starts with Palm Sunday on April 24th and continues with services on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, leading to Easter on the 31st. The Council minimizes activities accordingly during Holy Week so that families are not deterred from worship services.

We cancelled the 1st Degree on Tuesday the 26th, but we will hold our social meeting that night.

Mike Sallese, Nominating Committee Chair, is looking for a few Good Men for the LGVC officer slate for July 2013-June 2014. Let Mike know that you'll be glad to serve. We are considering holding some open meetings, inviting wives and non-members. These meetings may precede, follow or replace a regular meeting and cover topics such as: insurance presentations by Fraternal Benefits advisor Mark  Bateman, ultrasound contribution recognition for Teens in Ministry (TIM).

Council Information Sessions in our wifi hot spot in the Council Home started in January. They will continue on a monthly or bi-monthly basis as interest dictates. The next attraction will be a review of the Council Web Site by webmaster Bob Elliott. This will be a chance to learn about www.kofc8736.org features and capabilities and to offer feedback to Bob. Take a look at the web site and send comments to the webmaster. We will offer the session this spring.

We will celebrate Divine Mercy on Sunday, April 7th. Long Green Valley will sell beer, as is our custom, at the Spring Fling on May 9-11. Bob Renshaw will lead our Marygold Program to distribute potted marigolds to Mothers who chose life. We will pick up the flowers from the State, re-pot them and hand them out at masses on Mother's Day weekend of May 11-12.

Our Membership Recruiting Drive will be the Ministry minute on the weekend of May 11-12 when we will speak from the pulpit. Our good works will be in evidence at the Spring Fling and Marygold program that same weekend. We need to have a big recruiting day to make our membership goal.

Our annual Ironbirds game will be Saturday, July 6th and includes a buffet, ball game and fireworks, all for $35 per ticket (under 5 free). We committed for 42 tickets.

Hall Rentals: Have folks coming to visit for the Holidays, but not enough room? Consider renting our Council Home for a family get together.
