Brothers All

Brothers All,

There are four topics that should be brought to your attention to update our calendar of activities, or require your immediate attention and your participation. Please read and respond where you can help. Many hands spread the effort and make the work go smoother. Long Green Valley has a rich tradition of grass roots support and we will need it again to address these items.

(1) Tootsie Roll Drive - We will be offering Tootsie Rolls at masses this weekend, October 11th and 12th, and collecting donations. We will need at least 4 Knights at each mass to greet people and offer the candy as they leave each mass.
Please e-mail
joew03@hughes.net to let me know you are available and which mass you will support.
ACTION:
e-mail your name and mass you will work to joew03@hughes.net and NLT Friday 6PM.

The concept of operations is to be in front of church prior to mass mostly to mentally prepare people for the tootsie roll event and make it obvious that we will be there after mass (we know where they live!). Some people may donate then but the focus is after mass. After mass we have three people at the main exit and 1 at the side exit. Knights should wear their name tag if available and don an apron for holding money and tootsie rolls. The collections after mass should take about 15 minutes of your time, but you should leave mass after communion to catch those who leave early. We will have some ones and fives available to make change if required.

(2) Car Raffle Tickets - Remember that the Council gets 60 cents per car raffle ticket. Please ensure that all your raffle tickets are returned with money or checks by Saturday 5PM mass to the Tootsie Roll team at church. I will take the rest of these ticket stubs to the Columbus Day Ball on Saturday Night, October 11th and insert them in the drawing which will occur later that night.
ACTION:
Turn in all car raffle tickets by Saturday night after the 5PM mass during the Tootsie Roll Drive.

(3) Columbus Day Parade - This Sunday, October 12th is the Columbus Day Parade. You can have breakfast at Dundalk Council. They will transport you to the parade and you can walk, or if required, ride a float if unable to walk. Afterward you will be transported back to Dundalk Council for lunch.

(3a) District Horseshoe Tournament - Brothers are invited to participate in a fraternal sports event with representatives of our District. It will be held at Eden Mill, site of our recent picnic, at 1 PM on Sunday, October 19th. You will start with food served at the pavilion consisting of hot dogs, hamburgers and sausages, soda and beer. Then there will be an afternoon of shoe pitching by teams of two each representing the Councils in our District. There is a small entry fee and participants are asked to bring a pot luck type dish (desert or other) to add to the feast. Approximately 25 to 30 Knights are expected to attend.
ACTION:
Please e-mail me by October 15th with your intention to participate and make Long Green Valley proud. joew03@hughes.net

(4) District Soccer Shootout - The soccer shootout at the district level brings together the winners from each Council competition and will be held either Nov 1st or 2nd at a location to be specified in the district area (likely north of us). Whether there are any entrants from our Council, the District needs one or two representatives from each council to conduct the district event as scorekeeper, event facilitator or other task. Let me know if you are interested. It will require several hours of your time.
ACTION:
Please e-mail me now if you can possibly help (depending upon date selected) and have interest. joew03@hughes.net

Thanks for your attention and anticipated help,

Brothers,

It is once again time for the Knights of Columbus Annual Tootsie Roll Program.
Jim Billingslea, PGK, has stepped forward to be chairman of this program for our council.

Jim has made arrangements with Giant Supermarket in Hunt Valley for the purpose of distributing Tootsie Rolls.

At this time, he has reserved every Friday and Saturday during the month of
September from 10am until 2pm.

Volunteers are needed to make this worthwhile project a success.
If you can help, please contact

Jim at jpbillingslea@verizon.net
